Slammers Walk Off Otters in 10
JOLIET, IL - As game two got under way the Slammers looked to tie the series with Evansville. After 4 clutch runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and the winning run coming across the plate in the 10th the Slammers enjoyed a hard fought victory. Righty Austin Shea took the mound to kick off game two for Joliet.
Shea and company kept the defensive pressure on the Otters as the game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when a sacrifice fly by Elijah MacNamee opened the scoring, and a home run by John Schultz followed in the top of the fifth, as the Otters took an early 2-0 lead.
Halfway through the fifth inning the Slammers called right hander Chris Roycroft to the mound to relieve Shea. Shea tossed a total of seven strikeouts, five consecutively to start the game, and faced 20 batters. Roycroft only let in one run in the top of the seventh before being relieved by Keyton Sullivan in the top of the eighth.
The bats came alive for Joliet in the bottom of the eighth. 4 RBI’s tied the game up and put the Slammers back in the game. Jarett Rindfleisch had a single that brought home Dylan Hardy. With the bags full, Kyle Jacobsen was walked which sent Alonzo Jones across the plate. The Slammers found the bases loaded again and a single by Lane Baremore brought Jarret Rindfleisch and Sean Green home, bringing the score to 4-4, and the Otters bullpen was pushed to their limit by the Slammers.
After a defensive error on a hit by Kyle Jacobsen by Evansville’s third basemen, Tyler Blaum crossed the plate giving the Slammers a walkoff, extra innings win. The final score was 5-4 Slammers, with the win being awarded to Trevor Charpie, saving the game for the Slammers in the 10th with the game on the line. The series is now tied at 1-1
The next home game will be on June 24th, the final game in the Slammers/Evansville series. Gametime is at 7:05 pm.
