by Lauren Rhodes

JOLIET, IL - With Cameron Aufderheide taking the mound, the Slammers looked to even up the series against Southern Illinois. Holding the Miners to one run, Joliet would take tonight's game with a 4-1 win.

The Slammers would start off the scoring with one run in the bottom of the second inning. Jackson Dvorak would get to first on an error by Southern Illinois third basemen allowing Patrick Causa to score unearned. The run gave Joliet an early 1-0 lead.

The Slammers would put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth, extending their lead over the Miners to 3-0. A double by Lane Baremore would see Brylie Ware and Carson Maxwell score. Both would be ruled unearned runs. Maxell got to first on a fielder's choice, then to second on an error by the Miners second Basemen. Ware would get on base after being hit by pitch.

The top of the seventh would see the Miners put their first up on the board, chipping away at the Slammers lead. An RBI double by Jared Mang would score Ian Walters bringing the tally to 3-1.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, the Slammers would make a call to the bullpen bringing in Kaleb Honea. Honea would relieve Aufderheide after 6.2 innings on the mound. Aufderheide would face 26 batters and only give up one run.

The top of the eighth inning would see Slammers ace Trevor Charpie take to the mound, relieving Honea. Honea would see five batters in his one inning.

During the Slammers’ turn at bat in the bottom of the eighth inning, Joliet would add another. An RBI single by Lane Baremore drove home Brylie Ware in from second base. This would put the Slammers on top with a 4-1 lead going into the ninth inning.

The Slammers mounted a solid defense against Southern Illinois, keeping them to one run. Joliet would walk away with a 4-1 win, tying the game at one game a side. This leaves game three as the deciding factor of the series. The Slammers season record now sits at 25-44 going into game three of the homestand.
