Slammers Come Up Short in Game Two Loss
JOLIET, IL - Coming off a big win against Gateway in last night's game, the Joliet crew looked to swipe another win to put them ahead in the Series. To kick off game two, the Slammers called on Logan Dubbe to take charge on the hill. While the game went well for Joliet early on, a 5 run 6th by the Grizzlies flipped the game on its head and proved to be the deciding factor in a 6-3 loss.
The Slammers scored one run right off the bat. Dylan Hardy, after getting to second on a stolen base, would come home on an RBI Double by Braxton Davidson.
In the Slammers’ bottom of the third one more run crossed the plate. An RBI double by Brylie Ware would see Braxton Davidson score, giving the Slammers a 2-0 lead. It would be only one inning later where the Slammers would see another run scored, as Patrick Causa would send a long ball over the right field fence for a solo homer. The home run was Causa's second this season. The Slammers held a 3-0 lead going into the fifth inning. These would be the only three runs scored by the Slammers in tonight's game.
The top of the fifth would see the Grizzlies put a run on the board with a solo home run from Connor Owings. The top of the sixth saw Joliet lefty Chandler Brierley take to the hill relieving Logan Dubbe after 5.1 innings pitched. Dubbe would see 24 batters, striking out six.
An inning later in the top of the sixth, Gateway would score five runs giving them a 6-3 lead over Joliet. Abdiel Diaz would hit a base clearing double earning him two RBIs, scoring Jose Rosario and Dustin Woodcock. On a 8-6-5 putout on Justin Jones, Abdiel Diaz would make it to third on an error by Slammers catcher Brian Parreira. Diaz would score followed by Connor Owings. Former Slammer Alonzo Jones would hit an RBI single, scoring Jay Prather. This big inning would see the Slammers down three runs going into their at bat in the bottom half of the inning.
Slammers righty Kaleb Honea relieved Brierley in the top of the seventh inning. Brierley would see six batters while on the mound.
A 1-2-3 inning would close out the Slammers last at bat. Both teams would see 11 hits tonight. Tonight's loss sees the Slammers record sit at 21-37. The three game series between Gateway and Joliet is now tied at one game a piece. The next game will determine who takes the series.
