Joliet Slammers-3 Schaumburg Boomers-0

JOLIET, IL —Behind a spectacular outing from starting pitcher Keegan Long, the Slammers got back to their winning ways with a 3-0 shutout against the Schaumburg Boomers. Long pitched 7 shutout innings, while only allowing 1 hit and striking out 7 Boomer hitters.

After allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, Boomer pitcher Payton Lobdell settled in and held the Slammers scoreless until he left the game in the 5th inning with what looked to be an apparent arm injury. Lobdell finished with 6 hits, 7 strikeouts, and 2 earned runs.

After Keegan Long sat the Boomers down in order in the top of 1st, the Slammers scored 2 runs in the bottom half thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from Brian Parreira and Tyler Coolbaugh.

The Slammers would add on 6 more hits throughout the game, Jose Camacho tallied his first three hits of the season along with an RBI single to right field giving the Slammers a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning.

The Boomers were unable to get their offense firing on a cold night in Joliet. They were shutout, and only mustered up 3 hits.

Cody Clark came in for one inning of relief and had a 1-2-3 inning. Ryan Koziol finished the game for the Slammers, picking up his third save of the season.

The Slammers win game one of this three game series improving their record to 4-4, while the Boomers fall to 3-4. Game two scheduled for Saturday, May 18th at 6:05.

Tonight’s Merchants and Manufacturer’s Bank Player of the Game is Keegan Long. 7 IP, 1 H, 7 SO, 0 ER.
