Joliet, IL — The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy are proud to announce pitcher Duke von Schamann has been named Week 16 Pitcher of the Week as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation.

Joliet Slammer Duke von Schamann, earns his first Pitcher of the Week honor after impressive starts against Windy City and Traverse City last week. Against the ThunderBolts, von Schamann went seven innings, allowed three runs (two earned), eight hits, one walk and struck out eight. The Slammers lost 3-4. He received a no-decision in the contest.

The Edmond, Oklahoma native was called upon by Slammers manager Jeff Isom to start Sunday against the Beach Bums and he did not disappoint. Duke pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits and struck out seven in his thirty-one batters faced. The Slammers won 1-0.

The 6’4 righty is now in his first season in the Frontier League after spending 2012 to 2014 in the Dodgers organization, 2014 to 2015 in the Indians organization and 2016 in the American Association. Von Schamann  is 5-7 in eighteen starts this season with a 3.87 ERA (12th overall). He’s dealt eighty-two strikeouts (15th overall) in one-hundred fifteen and two-thirds innings pitched (6th overall). Duke is the second Slammer to win an award this season.

The Slammers (41-49) go on the road Tuesday to face Wild Card contender, Washington (47-42) and will finish the regular season at home against the Lake Erie Crushers (42-48) this weekend, September 1-3.
