SLAMMERS FALL SHORT IN RUBBER MATCH WITH BEACH BUMS
Thursday, May 18, 2017

The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy attempted to take game 3 against the Traverse City Beach Bums after dropping game 2 following their Opening Night victory. With the wind continuing to blow out at 20mph the Beach Bums wasted little time after getting 2 runs in the first inning highlighted by an RBI single(9) from shortstop Will Kengor who reached safely in all 3 games.

First basemen Rock Shoulders picked his team up with a 2 run home run (2) in the first inning to tie the game. Will Kengor and Alexis Rivera would continue to stay hot at the plate by having back to back sacrifice flies to score 2 more runs in the 4th.

Joliet proved to be resilient and continued to cut away at their deficit. Traverce City managed to score in each inning until they were shut out in the 7th and would go on to not score after that. After a misplayed fly ball in the sun allowed 2 Slammers runs to score the game seemed reachable and the momentum was in Joliet’s corner.

With the score 14-9 Joliet was on the cusp of needing a big hit and with two men on base Rock Shoulders stepped to the plate and broke out the lumber by tattooing a tape-measure shot to right center to make it just a 2 run deficit.

After holding the Beach Bums in the 9th, Ridge Hoopi-Haslam reached on an error by second basemen Steve Patterson. Haslam was then thrown out at third base after a hit from Alexander Rodriguez. CJ Needam doubled to drive in Rodriguez and the Slammers had the tying-run on second with 2 outs for Marc Flores who squared-up the baseball but unfortunately hit it right at Alexis Rivera in left to end the ballgame.

The Slammers welcome the Schaumburg Boomers tomorrow night as the Slammers host Super Hero Night at Slammers Stadium with a post-game fireworks display. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
