Long Ball Lifts Slammers Over ThunderBolts
JOLIET, IL - Coming off a big win last night and looking to leapfrog the Thunderbolts for first place in the division, the Slammers resoundingly secured their second series win of the year on the backs of 5 longballs. Righty Cam Aufderheide took the mound to start off the night for the Slammers, and pitched 2.0 innings with 5 hits and 2 runs surrendered.
In the Slammers’ first turn at bat, Brylie Ware belted a two run homer bringing home Sean Green to give the team an early lead. Ware would also hit another three run home run in the bottom of the second inning that escaped the park and bounced all the way on to Clinton Street.
There were no shortage of home runs tonight as the Slammers bats were on fire. Brylie Ware banged two out past the fence, one being a three run blast bringing home Tyler Blaum and Tyler Depreta-Johnson, the rest being solo homers with Patrick Causa in the bottom of the second, Braxton Davidson in the third, and Kyle Jacobsen in the fifth. All but one of the Slammers’ runs came from home runs.
The men on the mound for the Slammers were solid tonight, keeping the Thunderbolts offense at bay as Keaton Sullivan took the mound in the third to relieve Aufderheide, pitching a scoreless 4 innings with 2 strikeouts. In the seventh inning, Mario Samuel came to the mound, and would pitch the final three innings of the game for Joliet. While on the mound, he let in two runs, with one in the seventh, and a solo home run in the ninth.
In the bottom of the eight, two more runs were scored by the Slammers, as Patrick Causa walked and Tyler Blaum was hit by a pitch, both with the bases loaded, bringing the Slammers’ run total into double digits for the first time in a game this season.
Tonight's win with a final score of 10-4 secured a series win for the Slammers, their second out of three series this season. The victory puts the team’s record at 5-4 on the season which puts them in first place of the Central Division.
The next home game takes place on Sunday June 6th at 1:05 p.m. Sunday's game is the final game of the Slammers/Thunderbolts series as well as an end to a six game homestand.
